With the children now old enough, Cathie returned to work, altering clothes at a store in Farnborough. This lead to studying and success in City and Guilds accredition. Cathie later taught Dressmaking at Farnborough Tech College.

Later Cathie worked at the Associated Examing Board in Aldershot and then Guildford. She retired in 1996.
